Daniel Newman
Professor Daniel Newman holds the Chair of Arabic Studies at the University of Durham, UK, and is a leading authority in various fields of Arab culture and history. His research spans Arabic travel literature, 19th-century Arab reform movements, Islamic medicine, and medieval Arab culinary history. He is best known for his acclaimed works, including An Imam in Paris: Account of a Stay in France by an Egyptian Cleric (1826-1831), and The Sultan’s Feast: A Fifteenth-century Cookbook, which won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award in 2021. Newman’s latest book, The Exile’s Cookbook: Medieval Gastronomic Treasures from al-Andalus and North Africa, continues his exploration of historical Arab cuisine.
